I don't think so. I've met Butch Vig many many years ago, and thought Spooner was a pretty weak band.

I met Tom Bailey and Alannah Currie at some concert-type thing in San Francisco back in '91. Tom was really aloof, while Alannah was totally plowed--three sheets to the wind, fer shure. She had to balance herself by leaning against people. I felt embarrassed for Tom.

Well, I sure wouldn't categorize Skinny Puppy circa 1990-now as new wave, but back in the 80s, they did have this awesome cutting edge sound to them…

I'll give you that. Spooner was fun and I caught them whenever I could, but they were not good enough or original enough to really catch on outside of the Madison area.

None yet, but in 15 days I'll be meeting The Fixx, who are playing in Alton, IL at the casino there. My co-worker Tracy is one of the big-shots at thefixx.net and has hung out with them several times already. I begged her to take me backstage to meet Cy and the fellows, and she said no problem (It helps that I play them on my show occasionally). I'll be sure to post some pics afterward.

I approached Debbie Harry after her Jazz Passengers show in the late 90's in SJ for an autograph and I had nothing on me for her to write on so I stretched out my shirt and she said "oh dear, this marker is not going to show up well on that shirt, do you have another else?" So I took out my wallet and gave her my admission pass to the photo department at SJ State University instead (I was a photography major). I wanted to say more but all I could say was "thank you". I wanted to say a lot more but I think I was going thru the shock of her being in front of me and also, there was a line of people behind me waiting to get her autograph.

Also, at the end of a Blondie concert a couple of years later in SF, I kept screaming Clem! Clem! Clem! (the drummer) and he came back out on stage and handed me his drumsticks and of course there were so many hands reaching out for them but he waited til I had a hold of the sticks. I thought that was very nice of him. Later we waited in front of their tour bus and he signed the drumsticks.

I met Robert Smith (and the rest of The Cure) once. He signed my sketchbook, and complimented my drawings!

I've met hundres of artists over the years...used to work at Roseland among other places and had all the access imaginable...but the one that sticks, and always will...sat in the bar in the Apollo theater, October 1986, and had drinks with a then not-doing-much Joe Strummer. It was then, is now, and always will be one of the greatest moments of my life. We hung for almost an hour, and he was as good a guy as I could have imagined...

I asked Mickey de Sadist of The Forgotten Rebels to let me by as he lay sprawled drunk on a staircase in an Orangeman Hall befor a show.When I came back inside from whizzing outside my wife was in the process of getting him a beer from the bar.He then asked her to show him her breasts(we laughed,she declined).As loaded or stoned as he was it was still a pretty good show.This was Oct 85 my 25th birthday present.
