I agree except for "Enola Gay". Subject matter aside the song sounds like something you'd listen to while on a merry-go-round at the fair. And OMD always seemed just one estrogen molecule away from morphing into Scritti Polliti.

If by "[i]Iciest/Coldest New Wave/Darkwave[/i]" we can also include coldwave, then a must to check out is Martin Dupont (group name, not a person) esp. their lp Hot Paradox. there are 3 or 4 classics on that one.

Try "Hot Paradox", "I Never Tried", and "Full Moons and Mouths", all of which are excellent. But beware, some of their stuff is...well bad. Uneven efforts from lp to lp, but when they get it right, it's very good.

Ugly by Cold . It's not new wave and I think it came out in the late 90's but still a good dark song. One of my favorite dark songs [:)] I mean [:(]

Yeah, for iciness, pretty much all of John Foxx' early stuff, in particular the whole of his "Metamatic" album.

For sheer darkness, I would say The Cure's "Pornography" and/or Joy Division's "Closer." Coil's stuff is crushingly dark too, but in a more "out there" kinda way and they definitely ain't new wave [8D].

'Goodbye Horses' by Q Lazzarus, featured in "Silence of the Lambs". "Buffalo Bill" plays it while putting on his make-up and trying his half-finished skin-suite while Katherine is in the pit. Lovely song and so fitting for Buffalo Bill. At the height of the chorus he displays his mangina. (Trivia: He sings the wrong lyrics in the movie. Instead of "dying over you" it's really "flying over you".)

Oh, I think that song is beautiful! I've never heard it anywhere outside of the film, and was too lazy to ever find out who it was. Now that I know, I realize I've never heard of the band.

Is this song available anywhere else or is it something you could post by any chance?

Later on, when Bill is stalking Clarice (and vice-versa) you can hear the strains of "Hip Priest" by one of my all time favorite bands-- The Fall. First time I saw the movie I almost fell out of my chair when that strikes up.
