Despite her outspoken oft misguided political views, her debut lp stands as her crowning achievement (writer, producer, performer) she had the trifecta.. besides Mandinka, this track is a standout that still gives me shivers, absolutely captivating.

Just listening to Faith & Courage now, an often overlooked album. I think it's so pleasant to listen to.

I never particularly cared about her political proclivities or affiliations. In fact, I usually like an artist better when they seem sincere in whatever they have to say. I know a lot of people were outraged by the SNL thing, but from my understanding, she was protesting the sexual abuse of children by priests in Ireland. Yeah, she could have gone about it differently, but isn't that what rock and roll is all about? I just somehow think if she were a guy who did or said a lot of the same things he wouldn't have had such a backlash. Anyway, I say, good for her. Rock is and always will be about rebellion and challenging beliefs and pissing people off. Listen to Lawrence Welk or John Ashcroft's "Let The Eagle Soar" otherwise.

That said, she sort of lost me after the second album when she went all schmaltzy and lite AM crooner.

However, I did find this at YouTube.com and had never heard it before (didn't even know she covered it) and thought it was rather pretty:

The SNL thing didn't bother me, personally, and I thought the whole thing got blown out of proportion afterwards, with all the media coverage about it. A shame she was judged just on that one performance, and not the talent that she most definitely has.

What I did think strange, though, was seeing her on some interview program where she was saying to the effect that she wasn't in the music biz to make money, the money wasn't important to her (that kinda thing). Meanwhile, she's wearing these huge-ass diamond earrings while saying that. The money might not be important to her, but I think she kinda liked it just the same.

I agree. That's why Bono's Africa Activities don't bother me and why, to a lesser extent, The Dixie Chicks' vocalizations against the war don't bother me, either. I feel like Bono is sincere in his efforts, and good for the Chicks for saying what they were thinking, although I'm sort of sick of hearing about them.

Sinead's antics never bothered me. I think she's a bit wacky sometimes, but she's got a beautiful voice and I like lots of her songs.
