Dearly beloved.......I hate to disagree w/ you, but Aerosmith still writes 99% of their music:

on "Just Push Play" (2001)........Steve Tyler wrote 11 of the 12 & Joe Perry helped write 9 of the 12

on "Nine Lives" (1997).........Tyler wrote all 13 so

All made big changes in style after 1st album (imo)

right on xtc-1957. I think what I should've said was that they didn't write most of their bigger hits in the last decade, unless I've been grossly misinformed. I wasn't going to drop a dime on him, but a buddy of mine who used to do artist development at

Not really new wave but what about Prince? He has done a 180. His music and style in the 80's and 90's was all about sex. I have musicology and it is nothing like the younger Prince.

Ministry is the first band to come to mind. There were some metal acts who really changed. Pantera started off looking and sounding like Poison. Metallica went from awesome to awesomely lame.
Aerosmith went from raunchy rock and roll to polished pop.
