when paul reynolds left a flock of seagulls, it was also kind of over for them - alphaville also suffered when frank mertens left the band though still producing some great stuff, of course, but they were at least never as successful as with the first album.

Mmmmm... I like the first Genesis albums after Peter Gabriel left but then the quality started to decrease.
Agree with that REM comment also.

Ppssssssssssssss, someone has to say this and it will be me: New Order is great (REALLY GREAT) but coming back as Joy Division without Ian??? It doesn't make any sense to me.

Just wanted to mention something to consider ... for the bands that have been mentioned, were the bands already in a downswing before the member left? The member leaving might not have made any difference at all, as even if they stayed, the band might still have sucked anyways.

BTW, while OMD may not have been as creative without Humphreys, Universal was a great album. I enjoyed it more than several of their albums as a duo.

Ummmm......gonna have to disagree with you on this one, Bob.......

I think Warren Cucorullo's guitar work was far superior to that of Andy Taylor. And the percussion really was never anything to write home about. But I will grant that nothing could save "Pop Trash."
