There are certain songs so instantly recognizable and irritating that they trigger an almost autonomic reflex action for me to change the station. This, of course, is much less of a problem since I got XM. For me that gunshot FX at the beginning of "Wild, Wild West" causes such a reaction. It spends additional time in the 9th circle of hell for the worse imitation of a Jamacian accent by a white guy ever caught on tape.

Many of the other songs on the poll as just as horrid (IMO). A Simpsons episode related that McFarrin's follow-up to his hit was, "I'm Worried, Need Money"

If I remember right Blender magazine rated "We Built This City" as the worse pop song ever recorded. I read Grace Slick's autobiography and she seemed pretty embarrassed by it as well.

I think the worst 80s songs are the ones done by "non-singer" celebrities. Here is my list.

1. WORST of the Worst: Party all the time (Eddie Murphy)
2. Heartbeat (Don Johnson)
3. She's Like the Wind (Patrick Swayze)
4. Best of the Worst: Bruce Willis, Respect Yourself. (As Rolling Stone said, this song is bad, but as far as actors go, it's good.)

I'd list more, but this is making me sick.

I think the only reason Party All the Time was so popular was cause of Rick James' appearance on it. What was really dreadful was Eddie Murphy's 1989 top 40 hit 'Put Your Mouth on Me'. Just the fact that CBS gave him a second album was just too much [V]

I don't think he ever did a third album [^]

Eddie Murphy only misses the trophy by a notch due to the participation of Rick James.
N' down south here...nobody, not even .38 Special, should ever re-record "Freebird" (whoooooo). Will To Power must be shamed.

I'm sure there were oodles of hits that were horrible that are not in the poll, but my two cents are in for Buckner & Garcia's "Pac-Man Fever" which may only be saved due to its kitsch.

She's Like The Wind! For my class's dance day last year, I wanted a song with which we could use whoopee cushions. She's Like The Wind won out (because of the "wind" reference). It was funny to see the kids do this liturgical-type interpretive dance while squeezing the wind from their whoopee cushions. We got a standing ovation.

Hey, why is everyone hatin' on actors who had songs? Seriously, although they're not actually sung by singers, I can't say that She's Like the Wind, Party All the Time, Heartbeat, and Respect Yourself are bad songs. You gotta remember these singers had entire ALBUMS, and these songs were the BEST from them. I actually have "The Essential Don Johnson" CD, there's this on song on there where he sings in Spanish..........THAT is the worst 80's song ever...well either that or his duet with Barbara Striesand "Til I Loved You." Or perhaps Rico Suave by Gerardo.
