Back around 1980 or so there was a great New Wave club that I used to go to every weekend on Saturday nights,here in FT. Lauderdale,Florida.It was called the New Wave Lounge.I don't know if any of you ever came down during the spring break at the time,or when the tourist season was but they used to pack em in.They would not only play alot of rare New Wave songs on vinyl,but also show some great rare and obscure New Wave videos too.

They had a a few tv sets all around the club that they would show videos on.And at times they would also have local South Florida New Wave bands play there live.I was a regular there every Saturday,and after awhile I get friendly with one of the dj's.It was a very cool hangout to say the least.Did anyone ever go there that was from out of state during the spring break and tourist season,that posts in here? Just curious that's all.Thanks.

I remember hearing alot about Mt. Vernon,New York's "Left Bank" A good friend of mine at the time used to hang out there,and he was from New Rochelle,and he used to tell me just how good it was.Although,I never did get to go,becuase by the time I got back up north the club closed down for good.

I used to come up to New York quite a bit in the early to mid 80's to visit friends of mine,and they would tell me all about the New Wave club scene going on up there,while I would tell them what was going on down here at the New Wave Lounge.I remember going to Spit in Long Island once,and I really remember enjoying it,the one time I went there.

she is also actually working at STRIKE the bowling alley in Lake Success... een her there a couple of times..

This is so weird . . . I was just thinking about putting together a blog w/my old Spize & Paris NY photos & journal to keep my web skills honed (I went from a Paris NY regular from 1987 until it closed and then Spize from when Paris closed until Spize closed in 1993 to a freelance writer & stay at home mom), and as I was doing some research to get the names & dates straight, I found this site.

Well, I used to go to Paris EVERY Friday night from Connecticut. It took me an hour each way, but I never found a place where not only the music was the same as I liked, but where there was such a loyal following. It was like the same people every night. We used to joke that it took half an hour just to kiss everyone hello, so we started arriving earlier. Also, the 2 for 1's at Matt's upstairs bar were the best. I believe the three hotties who ran the back bar downstairs opened a club in Smithtown called 242, and DJ Slave started playing there. It was a horrible summer with the replacement DJs every Friday until they found someone decent.

Now, to jump ahead quite a bit, after Spize had closed (that's where I ended up meeting my husband), we needed somewhere to go the night of his bachelor party, and then the next night was MY bachelorette party. The only place around was Siberia, which was the last club I believe took up space at the old Spit/Uncle Sam's. Definitely not the same vibe as Spize or Paris. One of the original owners of Paris & his wife tried to open a new version in Huntington village, which is where we went for my party the next night. Then it disappeared.

As for what stands at the old Luxe, it is now Reinvention on Fridays, if I am correct. The gothic/industrial scene on LI is completely DEAD; my single friends travel to Albion/The Bat Cave at Downtime in NYC on Saturdays when they aren't too tired from working during the week.

Angela....I'd love to see those photos as I was the DJ at Paris before Slave (wasn't he great ?) Slave was a customer and then a barback at paris when I found out he was interested in spinning. He turned into one of the all-time greats and brought Paris into a new era all by himself.

And....Matt Passed away. Sorry for you to read it on a message board. Matt was one of the best dudes you could know.

I will definitely post a few pictures tomorrow morning. My 2 1/2 year old Madeline is just getting over a cold and I'm trying to keep her indoors for the past few days, so I will have some time tomorrow.

I have an almost 4yr old and an almost 2yr old....both girls....I know what you mean. Since it's like 6 degrees outside we won't be going out either.

In the mid 80s I was in the Washington, DC area.

Radio: WHFS! It was incredible. MUCH better than KROQ and WLIR at the time (a lot less repetition). Alas, it stopped "progressive" programming in the mid 90s.

Clubs: "9:30" was the best. Also Cagneys and Poseurs.

Way back in the day about 100 zillion years ago (1979-1980)there was a place called X's New Wave Annex on Colubus Ave in North Beach San Francisco that played New Wave music I believe and corect me if I am wrong but that was Steve X's gig befor going on to the Palladium which played New Wave on Thursdays and Fridays it was right off of Brodway just a few blocks from the Mabuhay Gardens and the Stone where many of our favorite early new wave/punk bands played in the early 80's...

or Primary in Wanlut Creek, CA???
Did you guys go cradel robbing at Lipps Walnut Creek, CA or Twilight Zone Alameda, CA in the late 80's???

Hey lets go see Voice Farm for the 300th time at the Berkeley Square???

Well The Berkeley Square was cool and so was the Keystone West al lot of gr[8] shows played there.

Did anyone go to One Step Beyond in San Jose, CA???

Clubbing was fun... Going to shows were better but new waver parties were absolutly the best.

also way back in the day in early 80's Seattle, there were some pretty vibrant New Wave clubs...

who remembers Skoochies ?
the Gorilla Gardens ?
the Metropolis ?
the Vogue ?
the Eagle's Nest ?

or, further south, the ultimate coolest high school kids in Olympia (Wash.) went to the Pacific Surf Club in oly.

whenever i recall those days, or see the old footage of MV3 clips that were posted on here recently, it makes me slightly embarrassed to see all of us in our teen days, but damn ! that was FUN !

The only thing remotely resembling a club here is Legends. They feature the Breakfast Club. An awsome 80s cover band.
