Poi Dog Pondering also do a great cover of "Love Vigilanties." The acoustic arrangement gives it a whole different flavor. It was a bonus track on one of their CD singles.

lol 9 months after thread my 2 cents[:D] Blir is pretty much spot-on i believe.yes his status(dead/alive) and the title are ambigious,but that's hats off to brilliant writing. i personally believe he is dead (telegrams were still used in vietnam and delivered by cabbies,read "We were soldiers once..and young"). to me his being departed is the heart-wrenching,bitter tragic icing on the "title" cake of this anti-war song. though obviously deep in love,through the hatred of one for another,they will never share that love together again.seperated by different dimensions they will always long for one another but forever will be "Love Vigilantes".....
