...that you could magically step in as a member of a new wave band, during any year, on any instrument. Which group would you chose to be part of? My choice (big surprise) would be Kraftwerk, in Wolfgang Flur's place, just so I could see first hand how the whole Ralf Hutter & Florian Shneider songwriting process worked, and to try my damnest to convince them to not wait an eternity between albums. That probably wouldn't work, since Bartos & Flur tried the same with frustrating results, but what the hell. I can imagine.

Fuuuuck. I would so totally destroy the harmony and balance of whatever group I'd join. I probably would choose to join a band whose music I hate in order to sabotage and have them fail miserably[:D]

I have had daydreams of belonging to a Depeche Mode-like group, though. Not Depeche Mode, but a band like it where I'd be the Martin L. Gore of the group and write and compose the bulk of their music while I just chill in the back with the synths and let the others take the spotlight.

I also had the daydream of being a group with Madonna or Terri Nunn just for the sex - preferrably with both[:D]

I concur wholeheartedly. Fame, riches, cheap sex with 20 different women in every town, what's not to love?
And to throw some new wave altruism in there, imagine the power you'd have as Simon or any of the Taylors to promote some of the new wave artists you felt were unfairly neglected. All you'd have to do as Simon is say "Images of Heaven is the best song I've heard all year" and hundreds of thousands of teenage girls would have bought Peter Godwin's record.

I was always a huge fan of Marshall Crenshaw, so I might choose him. It would be amazng to write & perform all those perfect pop songs. I'd hate to be one of those mega-stars that people were hanging all over, & chasing all the time.

If not Marshall C., then I'd be one of the B-52s (anyone except the guy who died!) They looked like they had a blast & put on a awesomely fun show - no talent required - just a sense of humor.

For me pre 82 Nick Lowe.I liked his style and wiseass outlook on things back then.I would have loved to have experienced that whole pub rock scene.Plus, wasn,t he married to Carlene Carter at one time and I kinda looked like him 100 years ago.

My wife thinks I'm nuts but I like the real oddball guy on American Idol this season because I think he looks like pre 82 Nick Lowe!
