"Hand In Glove" is one of the few songs by The Smiths which I disliked when I first heard... and even after going through an all-Smiths phase, that was a song I always excluded[xx(]

You should definitely give The Durutti Column a try. It's not depressing music, but it's very mellow and sort of meditative. The bulk of Vini Reilly's songs are instrumentals comprised of electric guitar and some other odd things.

Til Tuesday's entire first album really gets to me - especially Looking Over My Shoulder & Voices Carry. The whle album really reflected a lot of what I was feeling at the time. Still love it, never get sick of it!
