For me, it was probably 1979... either the Cars "Candy-O" on 8-track tape (no, cassettes will never take off) or a laser-etched version of Split Enz "True Colours". Both classics.

Doesn't seem like the Cars get the respect they deserve. Too bad, cuz I know they got a lot of people like me into NW. First three albums were great.

Good question! It's hard to remember what was my first new wave album but I assume it's either 20/20's first, The Go-Go's "Beauty & The Beat" or The Church "Of Skins & Heart".

My first new wave album was The Romantics album self titled. A great album that you can lisen to every song. I saw them in concet warm up for the tubes and that was a great show!
