Let's Discuss Bill Wyman's 'Je Suis un Rock Star'!
I must admit that I was both surprised and impressed when I first heard this song. Although it shouldn't be surprising, I was actually quite surprised that a member of the Rolling Stones could write such a hip tongue-in-cheek pop song, especially it being a solo Rolling Stone number. I thought the song was lyrically tacky, but the song was so wonderfully catchy that I couldn't help liking it.
I also remember thinking that Bill Wyman, in a very rare occasion looked kind of 'cool' in the video clip.
Now that I know that story was written about his 13 year old date and later wife Mandy Smith, I find the song a little stomach-churning and in bad taste.
Perhaps the song would have been less sleazy if it had been passed to Ian Dury as it was originally intended.
None the less, I can still listen to 'Je Suis un Rock Star' with slight amusement, but I'd be happier not knowing the age of the person he is singing to.
So what are your thoughts and first impression of 'Je Suis un Rock Star'?
