what movies are you guys aware of, old and new, that star new wave musicians ? said musicians can either be star or supporting roles, and REALLY GOOD cameo bit roles.

here are some to start us off:

1. Claire Grogan (Altered Images): "Gregory's Girl"
(allow me to digress on this one: is it "gregory's" or "Georgie" ? i've seen this, but can never remember which is the correct name)

2. John Taylor (Duran Duran) : "Sugar Town" & "Las Vegas City of Dreams"

3. David Bowie: "The Man Who Fell to Earth", "the Hunger", "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" & more.....ok, maybe David is not TECHNICALLY "new wave", but he sort of fits, to my mind.

4. Hazel O'Connor: "Breaking Glass"

...i am sure you guys can come up with more. an interesting question, i think, especially in light of today's cinema, where there has been a trend for many young'un's in the entertainment industry to cross over and be actors/ musicians/producers etc.

cheers!

You're right, it is Gregory's Girl. A classic teen angst movie filmed just outside Glasgow, Scotland, released in 1981.

Here are some pics of Clare Grogan in the movie:

I recently saw Claire Grogan (Altered Images)on an episode of "Father Ted." She played a feminist rock-star named Niamh who purchased Father Ted's house on Craggy Island.

Some other appearances I can think of just off the top of my head:

John Doe (

Nomads - Adam And AND Josie Cotton. Got vidcaps of Josie at least. Gotta put em on the web sometime.

Valley Girl - Josie Cotton

That's what Claire Grogan looks like? She looks more like Suzanne Vega in that, compared to her album cover.

schwenko says:

"Richard Hell in 'Blank Generation'..."

Also 'The Smithereens' and 'Desperately Seeking Susan'. The latter also had a brief cameo of multi-media queen Ann Magnuson of Pulsallama/Bongwater/'The Hunger' fame. One of her most prominent 8

Jane Wiedlin (Go-Go's) - cameo as the singing telegram girl in "Clue"

Lee Ving (Fear) - played 'Mr. Body' in "Clue"

Bob Geldof (Boomtown Rats) - "The Wall"

Stiv Bators (Dead Boys/Lords of the New Church) - "Polyeste

You're kidding? Lee Ving was in "Flashdance"? Wow! I'll have to watch that again. I was completely unaware of that.

Also, Eddie "Tenpole" Tudor has made a bit of a mark in film: "Hercules", "The Great Rock 'N' Roll Swindle", and quite a few others.
