The song "Instant Club Hit (You'll Dance To Anything)" by the Dead Milkman came to mind while I was reading another thread. I always thought it was a really funny song because at the time it came out I was working with 2 people who tried too hard to look like Robert Smith (and went to art school). Looking back I can see how the song might be offensive but the Dead Millmen were just a couple of clowns and I don't think they meant it. Any opinions?

IMHO, Deak Milkmen are losers. They weren't funny. They'd didn't like anybody, from camaro-riding longhairs to bleach boys to "artf*gs". A 10-years-late "punk" band that didn't sing against the establishment at all but sure had a lot of opinions on people

I have no problem with these guys goofing on a particular sub culture. Everybody is fair game IMHO. [B)]
They did a pretty good job with 'Bitchin Camaro' and their parody of the 80's LI's suburban slacker & rock cover band scene.

I guess one reason I liked the song is because my experince with a handful of people who fit the description in the song were very arrogant towards me. Even though we had some common ground (the music). And I'm wondering if they wrote the song as a reac

You could be right Swampthing with the former assessment about their reaction being to the attitude rather than the music or the people in general. What you describe could definately happen, with people being obnoxiously tribal about their own tribe.
