Top 10 New Wave Legends?

This is kind of a spinoff of what I saw in the Devo or Boingo thread. What Top 10 bands (and only 10 to make it hard) would you place into your truly "legendary", iconic, or defining list? Not your favorites but folks with whom the period couldn't be defined without? Yeah, even if you have to mention Duran Duran, even if they bring acid to your bile but you begrudgingly want to give them some due. Your thoughts?...

OK, I'll bite. I can do 10 favourite bands. I don't know if anyone would consider them legendary (or new wave for that matter) but these are the names that always did it for me. In no particular order:
Blondie
Siouxsie & The Banshees
The B-52's
Divi

I'm using a strict definition of new wave (i.e., listed as 'New Wave' by AMG, so no Clash, Smiths, Echo & the Bunnymen, Depeche Mode, New Order). To be a legend, there can't be any question about their new wave-ness.

Good list Dave! I wouldn't change any of those picks. I'd love to get Depeche Mode on that list, but I wouldn't boot any there for it's inclusion. [:)]

Echo & The Bunnymen & Depeche Mode NOT New Wave? Hah! AMG be damned! Seeing as how their best albums were from 1979-1982 (New Wave's classic period), and seeing as how their music fit in perfectly with what was going on, yeah, I'd say they were definite

Do a style search on AMG with a search criteria of "New Wave" returns a list of "Some Important Albums". Included on that list is "Private Eyes" by Hall & Oates [1981]. GMAFB [:(!]
Should I report the problem to the admin? [:D]

Indeed! As much as I use the AMG I wouldn't call it the bible of New Wave or any category of music.

It's fruitless to argue whether genres like punk, post-punk, alternative pop and synth pop were new wave or not. But to me, to be on a short-list as a legend of new wave, the artist ought to be an obvious choice for the 'new wave' label (*even* for AMG).

Duran Duran actually almost made my list. I do in fact like them but was acknowledging that they get a pretty bad rap for having been soooo overexposed by MTV and teenie girls. They also crashed pretty hard after their first work and release
