OK, stand back and think about it for a minute...

They were just a power pop band that got WAY too big; had they followed the career path of most 80's power poppers, we might view them differently.

Yes, they were smug and sexist and the older I get, the less I tolerate it.

It never really bothered me that they were stealing alot of their image from the early Beatles. I thought it was kind of cool at the time.

I like Get the Kanck as a period-piece. The cover is etched in my mind as an image from that magical early new-wave period (starting around 79 or so). The songs are OK, catchy power-pop songs. No, it doesn't rank with the most serious of new-wave acts by a longshot. But let's face it, new wave is a genre which celebrated the one-hit wonders and 'the next big things'. Anyone who denies that is not being honest with themselves. It's part of what made new wave FUN.

Sure, I would've like to have seen a differnt power-pop group who I admire alot more (like the Shoes) get the attention, but @#$% happens....

So what's your take on the Knack? I'm thinking you all will say they were godawful but who knows......

God I hated them. That Shitrona song was just a rip off of Rock Lobster.

Yes, they were over-hyped but nonetheless they were a very good pop band.

IMHO The guitar work on the album cut of 'My Sharona' deserves meritorious consideration.
