I'm thinking of acts that are/were not really new wave in nature but that did songs clearly influenced by the sound - - who would you add to this (not yet much of a) list - -

Marianne Faithful - Broken English

Celia Cruz (albeit with David Byrne) - Loco de Amour

Jon and Vangelis - Friends of Mr Cairo

You can't get more un-new wave than Enrique Iglasis (however it's spelt) & he has a version of Yazoo's Only You. Judy Collins also covered that song.

Oh yeah, I also remember hearing John Lennon's "Just Like Starting Over" a lot on "new wave radio". If that's the criteria, what about these too:

Neil Young's '82 album 'Trans'? Has anyone heard this? I haven't but was told the sound was quite a departure for him. Relying heavily on synths and distorted whatnot.

Marianne Faithfull's entire album "Broke English" is very new wave, and a masterpiece. Awesome album! Also, she collaborated with Rubert Hine.

Also, you are right about Neil Young's "Trans." It is also very experimental and could, I suppose be called '

On 'Trans', the track "Mr Soul" was a totally tricked out and trippy pre-pre-electronica cover of one of his Buffalo Springfield era songs. It got some brief airplay as a rock station single back in 1982

A lot of the stuff Bowie did around that time was new wavey, i.e. "Modern Love" and "Theme From 'Cat People' (Putting Out The Fire)"

Another long time classic rock innovator not widely known for tasty Synth Nu Wave flavored tracks is The Alan Parsons Project.

Derivative yes, but you're mentioning some really great songs IMHO (coincidence? hmmmm).

David Bowie's "Fashion" got a lot of play in the clubs. I also remember hearing the 12" version of "Cat People" really late and really loud in Danceteria one night in NY. It gave me chills. Much better than the lp version.
