Tough one. When I break down the 80's we had the New Wave scene from the early eighties. And that was so cool. I thought 1986 was great because the industry matured a bit. To me, 1984 had a lot of one-hit-wonders and then the industry changed with the arrival of Compact Discs now out on the market. Every year from 1985 until the end of 1989 the songs on the radio kept getting better until the big embarrassment came along - the 90's!!! Just go to my other hangout www.theloudestrock.com and you'll see what I mean. 1991 was about the only great year for music then. But I don't want to get off the topic.

This is obviously going to vary greatly by when you were listening to new wave the most. To speak only for myself, I've just rerun an Excel by-year "count" function of my new wave favorites playlist to dispassionately analyze this question. For me, it's c

It's difficult to pick just one year but 1980 and 1981 were undoubtedly the greatest. 1983 and 1984 weren't too bad. The more recent you go the more the quality of the music declines, drasticly I might add.

Might I suggest a delineation of the term 'music' and since those of us who indulged in the 80's clubbing scene may have a different take on what constituted "best" on what was heard in the clubs rather than on the radio. IMHO 1984-86 were watershed years

Whoever said 1982 was the peak, I agree 100%. But I thoroughly enjoyed 1984, 85 & 86.

Myirwin, I am totally impressed by your graphical analyisis.... knowing your fantastic taste in music I'm not going to argue, although without checking release dates I would've GUESSED a little earlier, like '80 or 81.

Quite honestly I would have to admit after all of this reading, all of the years were great... for each and all of the same reasons that made them all of the songs great... thats why we are here....
