I'm thrilled to bring you this essay by Cath Aubergine, who, I am ecstatically proud to say, is a faithful member of the British Sea Power board and about as fanatical a fan as exists of their's. I haven't met her though I caught a glimpse of her at the Camridge MA concert last year when she traveled most of the US following BSP. Anyway, apparently good taste is sometimes an absolute and extends to other good things - like the Chameleons! I think any Chameleons fan will appreciate this essay of her's:

I was shocked to find they'd hung it up after regrouping - the "Why Call It Anything?" album had some good songs on it, and it looked like they were gonna give it a shot...ah, well.

Damn, The Chameleons were great...any band who names them and/or The Sound as influences are pretty much guaranteed airplay by me...

Indeed, a great essay, even though I have only been familiar with the "Oh, there must be something wrong boys" song (I'm sure I have the title wrong--it's from '84. And goodness, I had half of a "mystery song" on a kusf mixtape two decades ago I'd forgotten all about, and today I find out now it's the Chameleons' "In Shreds" courtesy of this essay. Yippee.

Katie: One needs only quote a lyric (most of the time anyway)...that's "Up The Down Escalator" from [i]Script Of The Bridge[/i]. (And a fine song it is.)

Thanks for the link Blir! It's nice to see the Chameleons mentioned around here.

I've had the privilege of hanging out with Mizz Aubergine(and a handful of those mentioned in that essay)during a couple of the US-based Chameleons '02 concerts as well as a few other somewhat recent post-punk gigs. Great times. Fantastic people they are.
