June Pointer's passing...

I was so saddened by the passing of June yesterday. I knew she had a few "problems" over the last few years of her life trying to get back on track after addiction and turmoil with her sisters, but I was always interested in hearing from her again. I had no idea she was so sick and would be leaving us so soon. Without a doubt, June was one of my most favorite female vocalists--tough, unrefined, natural. She was by no means a brilliant singer, but had a quality unique to her. As soon as her voice came over the radio you knew it was June. "Baby Come & Get It" is an awesome piece of electro New Wave, and her vocal on The Rolling Stones' "Happy" is ultimate rocker chick. I always loved how The Pointers were such individuals, and June's look was particularly the best because she looked so cool being just a little awkward--long legs, a huge & brilliant smile, and so thin. I'll miss her, but love what she left behind.

It's very sad she was the youngest (not just of the 3 sisters we know of but all---6 I think it is?---of the Pointers) and the first to go. I wasn't aware of any addiction or turmoil. I do know that Anita and Ruth were there with her at her death, so they must have reconciled to some degree. It is sad indeed. Life can way too often be about witnessing and experiencing loss. And we all hate the reminders...
