I find myself lately tuning to the college radio stations to escape the dull repetition of commercial radio playlists. The same crap over & over...[xx(]
Most of the stations here in the Boston area spin a healthy mix of hardcore punk/garage, electronic, 70's & 80's classics, etc.

Do you still listen, or better yet- were you ever a college radio DJ???
If so, what was it like? Could you play whatever you wanted?

It's not a college station, but a free-form radio station -- WFMU, 91.1 FM in New Jersey.

Not in college, but we started a high school radio station and boy was it fun. Too bad we were banned from playing The Dickies, Dead Kennedys, and Fear. At least I sneaked The Ramones once.

College radio stations RULE !! In the 80's, they were always chock-full 'o hardcore punk and some of the weirdest New Wave. That is where I first heard the Residents, Renaldo & the Loaf, Tuxedomoon, SPK, the Android Sisters, and other weird stuff.

Still am a college radio DJ here in New Jersey (some habits are hard to break) and we have absolute freedom to play whatever we want. Check out the weekly playlist under the thread "That Modern Rock Show".

by the by-not ALL commercial radio blows-I think KROQ is still a very adventurous station-especially by today's standards and WMAD in Madison, Wisconsin is very pro-local and has a good playlist

I was a college Dj at WRUB (SUNY at Buffalo). We ran something called carrier current in the Ellicott complex (a dorm lego looking thing that housed about 3500). I don't think anyone evr heard us. I usually had the overnight shifts. That was back in 1
