Every time I see a band that I know in your queries, I go to the online Trouser Press guide and read what the have to say. It's always spot on.

This time, I know Game Theory. I love all things Mitch Easter (of Let's Active) and he had a hand in producing some of their albums. Most of their non-experimental music is jangly power pop. Some of their music is just weird or fey.

"Erica's Word" might be their most famous song. But here's "Crash Into June", off their [i]Tinker to Evers to Chance[/i] album, which is their "greatest hits" album.

HTe Gizmos were an Indianapolis prot-punk/punk band starting in the early-mid 70's. Fluid line-ups caused the band to have many different sounds throughout their history, ranging from Beefheart/Root Boy Slim weirdnedd to straight ahead Ramoes punk. Alot of the songs were crass or gross lyrically. Gulcher Records re-issued a bunch of their stuff over the last few years so it should be easy to track down.

One of the members is a guy named Tim Carroll who has made a name for himself in the alt-country scene.

I saw GRACE POOL open up for RICHARD BARONE at the Bottom Line 1988? I really enjoyed their artful "orchestra" rock sound; dramatic vocals and catchy guitar jangles. I bought both their CDs; "Awake with the Rain" which covered the song "Stay" by THE BLUE NILE, whom I love a lot and the second "Where we Live." I also picked up the CD singles of "Stay" and Awake with the rain" which includes a [remix] version in addition to the LP version. Sorry I don't have anything terribly intelligent to offer about Grace Pool other than my immense enjoyment of their music.

There's a decent Game Theory compilation called Tinkers to Evers to Chance that has their best stuff and is probably all the Game Theory you'll need unless you become a huge fan.

And Grace Pool I know I've heard, but not for a long time. Vague recollection convinces me to say they're sort of Innocence Mission-ish, but I could be wrong.
