OK, I know this isn't exactly New Wave, but I have a soft spot for John (Cougar)Mellencamp. "This Time" & "I Ain'T Even Done With The Night" from Nothin'd Really Matter... are two of my all-time favorites. Anyway, I've always listened to them as singles and then on his anthology. Just yesterday I pouchased the CD for Nothing Really Matters... and noticed that "Peppermint Twist" starts out like the disc is defective and last an entire :29! Is this supposed to be like? Let me know. Otherwise, it's a great album!

I hate John Cougar Mellencamp with a passion; I despise him more than any other musical artist. There are many more ineffectual and wimpy, but I take every Mellencamp song as a personal affront. If I had a time machine, the first thing I'd do is go back in time, and murder him in the womb. If I had a billion dollars, the first thing I'd do is buy up the rights to his songs Beatles-style, buy the sheet music, burn it all in front of his face, and laugh. Then I'd buy the land surrounding his house and turn it into a New Orleans refugee camp; or I'd rent it out to Dow as a chemical dump.

Let's get this straight; I don't like Mellencamp.

OK, that's great how you feel about John Cougar, but that doesn't answer my question. Neither do the lyrics to "Paper In Fire". So while I appreciate the time you both took to waste your time, my inquiry still goes unanswered.

If I wanted to verify Mellencamp track listings and song lengths, I'd look it up on a discography resource or at a Mellencamp forum rather than ask at a new wave site. I don't know how many people here are going to own that album. Allmusic however does seem to indicate that that's how long the track is...

If I remember correctly from listening to my old "Nothing Matters" cassette, that song was just an intro to "Cheap Shot" and was supposed to be very brief. I think your copy is fine.

I quite like "Crumblin' Down" and "The Authority Song", but I despise "Jack and Dianne".

Back in the 80s, in the fake "Letters to the Editor" section of a [i]National Lampoon[/i] magazine, there was letter from Ron Cougar Reagancamp that said "I fight minorities, minorities never win." I liked that letter so much, it stuck with me for 20 years. [8D][:D][}:)]

IMHO the only thing remotely good to come out of John Cougar was Pat Benatar's cover of "I Need a Lover Who Won't Drive Me Crazy."

For the Mojo Nixon-Skid Roper song "Elvis is everywhere", does this mean we can make John Cougar the anti-Elvis now? Since Michael J. Fox isn't well anymore... we should retire him.

To whom it may concern:

Having grown up in the Mellencamp circle, I feel that y'all need to shut the hell up. I've never been a fan of John's music, but unlike most musicians that we like, he spends a lot of it in his hometown community. He financially helps to keep the only mom & pop record store in Seymour IN. in business (where they sell every kind of music, even new wave). He donates funds towards the downtown business district, in protest to Wal-Mart's locust like assault. He treats his family amazingly well, and he has no ego whatso-FN-ever. Being the black sheep in my family, I don't talk to John as most of the family, but I never had anything but respect for his accomplishments and how he's chosen to use his money, how he handles his accomplishments and mistakes, and how he treats his family and his fans. To rip into him, to wish his death (even in a joking manner) is bad form. What the hell did he do to any of you? Make some music you don't care for?

Grow up.

When I was stationed in Kentucky back in 85.. Me and a buddy drove across the bridge into indiana to see the John Cougar's house where he grew up. We were very unimpressed and voiced it to the shagrin of local yokals who were about to get the pitchforks and torches to run us out of town (idiots). The best part of the trip was listenen to The Repo Man Soundtrack and Sex pistols the whole way there and back to Ft. Knox. Stupid Backward ass Indiana - No alcohol on Sundays, friggin dry counties. Blech dont miss that part of the country... and the Tornados!!! My God the tornados!!!!!
