I liked the spunkiness of Martha Quinn. I did not care for Mark Goodman. Dude was full of himself. Still is. His radio show is horrible.

Fave - Nina Blackwood
Least fave - agree with Mark Goodman. Didn't have the D.I.Y. energy of the other four (even though two of them were so utterly uncool, they never would have gotten the gig had Viacommie owned it from the git-go). At times, he seemed like he was bored to be there -- or was lowering himself by being there.


THE MIDDLE YEARS
Fave - Downtown Julie Brown
Least fave - so many to choose from, but Matt Pinhead got under my skin the most. For much the same reasons as Mark Goodman.

Fave - That black chick. You know. Her. Yeah, that's why she's my favorite. She was too forgettable to hate.
Least fave - Jesse Camp (like anyone had to ask)


PRESENT
Fave - Jim Shearer. I find his complete lack of music knowledge, talent, personality and camera presence refreshing.
Least fave - Gideon Yago. How can anyone watch this tool? Oh, wait. That applies to Jim Shearer, too. Never mind.

I barely remember anyone else, except I liked Kevin Seal and notsomuch Adam Curry.

I didn't know they had VJs any more. I thought all they showed was Pimp My Real Road Crib Challenge All-Stars 27.

I really liked Martha Quinn a lot. I think Mark Goodman was my least favorite too.

I stopped watching around 85, because I didn't have a TV anymore so I missed out on all the later people. I tuned back in when Jesse Camp came on. Ugh - bad memories....I think I stopped watching again because of him.

Whatever happened to Jesse???

Matt Pinfield, FTW! He's like the Robert Osborne of music. Those two are my heroes[8D]

I hate Ricky Ratman. That guy from Headbanger's Ball. I fucking hate that guy. You can tell the guy was pretty much hanging on the coat-tails of the Metal scene.

Favorite: JJ Jackson, easily. He knew his shit, and came off as likeable and looked like he was digging his job. Sort of a rock&roll version of Don Cornelius.

Least: Downtown Julie Brown. Wubba wubba wubba says it all.

I liked Martha Quinn. Also loved Mtv 120 minutes -- wish they would bring that back.

I didn't see MTV until 1991, and the only VJ I can remember is Kennedy. She was (and still is ) ANNOYING!

Dave Kendall 120 minutes My fave.

Downtown Julie Brown least fave. I especially did not like her in the interview she gave Peter Murphy on 120 minutes. She new absolutely nothing and when Peter Murphy referred to Pere Ubu she was totally lost.

I had a major crush on Martha Quinn back in the day.

Dave Kendall, simply because it was funny watching him attempt to interview John Lydon once. Lydon was in rare form, asking him about his haircut, hilarious. It was a disaster... in my opinion... I squirmed through the whole show.

Kari Wuhrer!! Cute as hell, dumb as a rock and had no interest in music.

I used to have that interview on tape, and Peter Murphy was really on top of his game. He did it in a very subtle and charismatic way, but he let her know that HE knew that she had no clue what she was talking about and had her constantly referring to her notes just to keep up with him.

Without a doubt, one of my favorite MTV interviews!

On the flip side, I agree with the earlier comment about JJ Jackson. He seemed to be someone who genuinely loved music and know his stuff across a broad spectrum of genres and styles.

He strikes me as the type of guy that could not only have told you that James Mtume produced the Comsat Angels' "7 Day Weekend" LP in 1985, but could have told you that from the unique perspective of someone who had listened to both Mtume's "Juicy Fruit" and the Comsat Angels' "Land" LP in 1983.
