While I love the Eurythmics, I think they were a little too versatile to be classified as a pure synth duo.

Who said anything about "pure"

You could call PSB's disco queens or techno queens with Very/Relentless.
I think Eurythmics almost always had a Synth base & surly started that way.

And BTW I love the PSB's that's just the first thing that came to mind, not a very good example I know.
It basically comes down to your own perception, some might catagorize PSB's as Dance.

All over OMD, especially for what they contributed to the genre early on.

You should throw Naked Eyes in there, too.

also great Yaz, Buggles, Tears For Fears ...also OMD, but Almond & Ball for me better sounds! they had a special.... "synthetic feelings", lyrics are greatest!
I love a lot a deutch tecno-pop duo, THE TWINS - poor lyrics but sounds really good!
i have forgot Eurythmics... but SOFT CELL wins again!

Ahhh..... had to vote OMD... but I love Soft Cell and if there was any Pet Shop Boys, I would have had to abstain myself from voting.
Don't consider Teras For Fears as techno-pop... loads of guitars in some of their songs.
