Forgot doves,
The bunnymen are from liverpool: 30 miles away but there is a fierce rivallry between the cities in sport( in music there has always been a mutual respect.

That is a tough list to choose from . You have a lot of great bands listed. If I can only pick one I guess it would be New Order with the Smiths a close second.

Buzzcocks
But as someone with a definite pop sensibility, I would have had 10cc on the list.

Not having the Chameleons on the list is a travesty. Me thinks the poster known as "NewOrder" made a big boo boo.

Easy. New Order. They Own. And Rule. All.

Damned hard polls lately - but some of the best ever. To me, Joy Division is the same as New Order. The Smiths came in as a supremely close second.

JCC

It was a tough call between him and Joy Division, but JCC puts a smile on my face every time, whereas Joy Division sometimes makes me want to slit my wrists.

As much as I love Joy Division and The Buzzcocks, I have to go with The Fall.

Magazine is great.. didn't know they were from Manchester.
I like Doves a lot... they have good tunes with beautiful guitar sections.
The Smiths are the ones that represent the vibe of the place better... and Morrissey is the spokeperson for losers everywhere.
The Fall is so cool... took me time to discover them.

But... I went with Joy Division (though I like The Smiths as much as JD).

New Order is amazing but JD and No. are not the same. With the possible exception of Hooky's signature way of playing bass, you could listen to No and JD and never guess the connection between them.
