Frickin' US Release Date

For those rabid US Pet Shop Boys fans on the board (like me), it's time to order the Import. The US release date for Fundamental has been announced -- and it's a month later than the rest of the world. Here's the press release:

No date has been announced at when it may show up on iTunes in the US.

Or you can download it first and buy it later when it is released domestically. Mind you, the problem with that is that if the album sucks, you may not want to buy it later on .

I don't know why they hold back the release date these days. It's like they're begging people to just pirate it from the internet.

I myself have pre-ordered the import edition of the album. I agree, it's so sad that the US version can't come out the same time. They worry so much about pirating, then why not release at the same time!?! With films, they release them world wide pretty much at the same time to prevent the bootlegging. Why not with music? It's a shame to be honest.

Another thing that depresses me too, is with US artists (by US, I mean they were born here in the first place!). Madonna, released her "Confessions On A Dancefloor" across the pond first! Even the singles came out there long before they saw a US release. Why is that? I am very much a Europhile, but I can't understand this reasoning. Friends from Europe had the stuff before I even had the chance to hear it. Quite perplexing don't you think? Is it that the US is a harder market to crack than the rest of the world? Or they do it purposely so that the hardcore fans that are here will shell out the big bucks to obtain the CD? Call me old fashioned, but I only think it's right to buy the disc out right. I respect artists and their music. The only time I will download something, is if it is out-of-print and/or that's the only way I can "get" the music. I do like the "tangible" notion of having the "solid" product in my hands!!!

I've had the album for a couple of weeks now and absolutely love it. Right up there with their best albums IMO. My only complaint is the pacing..Fast song, slow song, fast song, slow song...

Minimal is one of the best PSB tracks in years and Fugitive (from Fundamentalism) should have been on the album as well as it is probably the best track from the lot. Trevor Horn has done a great job capturing/creating the signature PSB sound. Check out the two new B-sides, The Ressurectionist and Girls Don't Cry. Both are pretty good tracks as well.

Thanks for the review, Steve. I capitulated today and ordered the limited Japanese edition. I should have it in my grubby little hands by the end of next week!
