How moronic I forgot Jim Carroll.

I thought I had it all covered.But on this rainey,shitty Sunday I went to a used record shop and there it was,Catholic Boy.How I overlooked this treasure is beyond me.I do now remember a cousin of
mine raving about this band in the mid 80,s but it didn,t register.
Anyone else dig this band,anyone see them back in the day?

Hell yeah, I got into Jim Carroll right at the start. Catholic Boy is a classic. His second album, Dry Dreams, is good, but a bit of a let down after Catholic Boy. I've never seen it (Dry Dreams) released on CD. One of these days I'll rip it to mp3 and share it. I never saw him live, though.

Count me in. Catholic Boy is a classic album. It had an all-time great anthem on there, "People Who Died". How many of us got drunk with our friends and sang along to this one at one time or another? I also liked "Nothing Is True", "It's Too Late", and "Wicked Gravity" quite a bit. The whole album is good.

Now where's Motors with the all-important Tuff Turf tie-in?

Haha, Tuff Turf is the bomb.

My favorite things about Tuff Turf (Spoilers)

* I liked how it was basically a hybrid of Valley Girl and the Warriors. It ripped off entire scenes from Valley Girl, including the "driving around LA seeing the sights before going into a nightclub"...but instead of a nightclub, there's a country club, and instead of the legendary Plimsouls, we get the less-than-legendary Jack Mack and the Heart Attack.
* The JCB performance was great, but it's almost ruined by the sub-Fame dance number on the floor.
* Robert Downey Jr. Is the most ineffectual sidekick ever. He bursts into the warehouse at the end, and is taken out of comission within five seconds.
* The whole situation escalated out of control very quickly. One minute, his bike is trashed, a half hour later, his father is shot.
* The relationship between Spader, his mom, and his brother was very, very weird. There was some bizarre oedipal thing going on; I'm of the opinion that the actor playing his brother was boning the actress playing his mom off-camera.

I must say, I'm impressed. You really know your Tuff Turf.

And, don't forget Paris Hilton's aunt Kim Richards. In Paris' vernacular, Auntie Kim was "hot."

And, Catya Sassoon who played "Feather" in the movie could have been part of Jim Carroll's "People Who Died" as she died at 33.
