Tommy Keene.

If you love power pop at all, you have to get his album [i]Songs From The Film[/i].

Currently working with Robert Pollard (Guided By Voices) as "The Keene Brothers"

He was allegedly brought in to do "song treatments" (IOW, finish up fragments written by band members) for the second Gin Blossoms album, after their real songwriter, Doug Hopkins, committed suicide.

The Katydids are a hit and miss band. The two videos I have are their best songs; Lights Out (Read my lips) & The Boy Who's Never Found. Both are damn catchy, and definitely out of place with what was happening in the early 90's, which is when they were released. On whole, their debut album is really good. Some other very catchy songs and worth a listen. Their second album, Shangri La, is much more laid back. Though the album opens with the excellent Boy Who's Never Found, the rest of the album goes for a more lightweight feel, not unlike The Sunday's, or something similar. It's not an easy album to listen to, though pleasant background music. The band split after the album's failure, and the guitarist joined The Pretenders.

I remember the Katydids, but their rekkid made little impression on me kind of softer "college rock" I think?

I had a chance to interview Tommy Keene for our campus newspaper-nice guy-genuinely interested in being a good interview subject to me a dummy who thought he was going to be a rock journalist -took me and what I was doing seriously. Catchy power-poppy music, good stuff. Did a live cover on one of his rekkids of Saint Lou's "Kill Your Sons." Was on Geffen I beleive, but before that, a southern (?) indie called Dolphin.

Henry Kaiser:

Not really sure what he's doing on the NWO, as he's more of an experimental musician. He's the grandson of Henry Kaiser of Kaiser Automobiles (ask your granddad), Kaiser Aluminum, and Kaiser Permanente Insurance, so he's never really had to scuffle. He actually has two careers; one as a musician and one as a gentleman scientist (mostly oceanography).

I'm familiar with his work as part of French, Frith, Kaiser and Thompson (that's John "Drumbo" French from Captain Beefheart's Magic Band, Fred Frith from Henry Cow, and uber-guitarist/songwriter Richard Thompson). He's also collaborated with David Lindley, Plunderphonics composer John Oswald, and the Golden Palominos, among others.
