I'm sure someone already had a post like this but I want to hear your answers now that I'm getting to know some of you guys and gals.

Oh, I promise not to start on how much I hate Andrew McCarthy's eyes.

I loved e.g. daily in vally girl. She was hot. She even looked great in pee wee's big adventure. How funny that they put a blue streak in nick cages hair and say he's punk rock?

But he was punk rock. He loved Pat Travers[?] and you can't get more punk than that.

Well at least in this genre of 80's movies, I'd have to go with <I>Fast Times At Ridgemont High[/i]. Still the definitive teen movie IMHO. [8D]

My favorite 80s movie is Valley Girl,for the music and the trip back in time I get when I watch it. I recently found it on DVD with great extras and trivia, and I got one of the soundtracks. I did laugh at people saying that Nick Cage's character was punk because he had a few streaks of blue in his hair. The music that he listens to in the movie seems more new wave than punk. I read a post a while back on the New Wave Outpost that one of the big new wave clubs, the Seven Seas, is on a marquee in the film. Most of the club scenes were filmed in FM Station, another Hollywood club that is now the Viper Room. I also liked the relationship between the characters, it seemed more real than in some other movies of the 80s.

Hmmm...of the "teen flick" genre?
What about "Heathers"? Was that like 87' or 88'? I remember the jocks in high school were PISSED at how they were portrayed in that flick. LOL

Can't decide between "Labyrinth" or "Legend".
Both had the classic good vs. evil plotline.
Both had wonderful fantasy creatures & magic.
Tim Curry was excellent as "Darkness".
The chemistry between David Bowie & Jennifer Connelly was electric, oddly enough given the big age difference.
Great soundtracks between Bowie & Tangerine Dream.

Oooh, this one's a toughie.

Valley Girl for the romance, but I totally had to pretend that it was somebody other than Nick Cage. Although, he wasn't that famous then so he was less annoying. Not entirely convincing as a Waver though. (more thoughts on this to come)

As far as the Hughes movies go, it'd have to be 16 Candles.

I LOVED Heathers. In fact, it's about time for a DVD viewing of that movie again. It had better be out on DVD.

Back to this Nicholas Cage thing, I'm not 100% sure that it deserves a thread of its own but it is a "new wave issue", lol. What's up with all of the "fake new wavers" you'd see on TV shows and film? I remember seeing a re-run of an old Busom Buddies where they were dressed up as Wavers/Punks, and it was so...badly done, lol. The spray on neon fake mohawk, the bondage pants that just kinda looked...wrong, the ripped t-shirt with one safety pin in the wrong place. You know what I'm talkin' about. Anyone else ever notice this phenomenon?

Anyhow, my boyfriend and I, we were talking about dressing up as "bad new wavers" for Hallowe'en. We're still talking it over, but I think it would be fun.

Glad someone mentioned REPO MAN.....

It may not have been a new wave movie but it had some cool songs in the movie...."Last American Virgin"

What about "Rock and Roll High School" oh..bummer that was 79' but blowing up Vince Lumbardy High was cool.

What about "Quadrophenia" darn that doesn't qualify its from 79' and it's a MOD movie.

I got it....Sting movies.....
"Brimstone and Tricle" that was kind of cool a very freeky plot and it had the english professor guy from Raiders of the Lost Ark in the movie

"The Bride" not as good as Brimstone but a little bit better than the Frankenstien movies you get in the 50's. Who saw the Fankenstien movie from 10 years ago with Robert Deniro. I like the consept of "Frankenstien" if you read the book and understand historical context (hermenudecs) the purpouse of the story was to piss on the enlightenment.

Hey christsmasher, I checked out your webpage, very cool video! Now if you and your guy dress like you said for halloween(my favorite day) who would notice that you were trying for a fake looking punk? Like how would you dress? I totally get what your going for but I want to know how you will do it. As the ultimate irony, I will go as either an accountant, or better yet, a yuppy! White sweater tied around my izod shirt. Tennis racket and martini glass. This should be great. My costumes are very well thought out but no body gets what I'm saying. Last year I went as my brother in law-who I hate with a passion! No one knows what I'm saying with my costumes but I can't stop laughing when I do it.

Back to movies: 16 candles was great. What about those Water films staring Divine? Hairspray was great!Female trouble was another one.

I never saw it, but a movie that was highly recommended to me was "Rockula", starring none other than Thomas Dolby. I'm sure it's pretty bad, but in a fun way. Anyone else catch this flick?
Also, "Night of the Comet" deserves mention here.

Absolutely agree with "Valley Girl" (Yes, E.J. Daily is a hottie!)

Also, "Say Anything" (John Cusak -- hot!!)

"The Hunger" (that's where I discovered Bauhaus)

"Class of '84"

And not really a new wave movie, but I loved "Racing with the Moon" starring Sean Penn and Nicholas Cage.

If I could pick some teenage movies from 1979, I'd say "Over the Edge" and "Foxes."
