An excerpt from the Biography of Dennis Hazen (published 1994, JT Press):

...shortly after wrecking his 1979 Camaro (that he insisted he would someday paint from it's weathered primer grey) in 1982, Hazen realized the accident had given him a gift unlike any other. He had the uncanny ability to say groups of words that nearly sounded identical to each other. Upon leaving his small mid-western hometown , he traveled to Los Angeles to make his dreams come true. After a failed porn career, Hazen changed his nickname from "Big D" to "Blazin", missing the surefire success had he chose "Phrazin'".

In 1983, Hazen's big break came when he discovered an envelope containing pictures of Def Jam's Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons in a compromising position.
Initially tabbed by Def Jam as "the Next Big Thing", the initial recording session and video shoot resulted in "glorified nursery rhymes" and Hazens career dreams started to falter. Shortly thereafter, Hazen began dating drummer Kate Schellenback, who was in a punk rock band called "The Beastie Boys". Introductions with Mike Diamond and Adam Yauch ensued and Hazen played his video for them. After a drunken night when Hazens video was played, he conviced the Beasties to drop their "punk rock" sound and start a career in his wonderful world of rhyming. Thinking this would be his vehicle to success, Hazen was prepared to join forces with the group and introduced them to Simmons and Rubin. Hazens career took a tragic turn as they were preparing a track for the movie soundtrack Krush Groove when he and Schellenback were asked to leave and the group hired Adam Horovitz, from the punk rock group "The Young And Useless".

Wandering the streets of L.A. for the remainder of the 80's, Hazen could do nothing but look on as his former "band mates" went on to become superstars with his ideas. Bouts of alcoholism and dead end jobs led Hazen into the 90's homeless.
Early in 1991, Hazen met tragedy one final time. While rummaging through a curb-side trash can, he was hit by a then unknown limo driven by Jan Terri, an aspiring musician in her own right.

Hazen will probably be best remembered as the "Pete Best" of Rap and a true pioneer of the video-age.
