Anyone else here a fan of both punk/NW and opera?

I ask because it's enough of an alleged cultural phenomenon to merit an NPR story, http://www.npr.org/features/feature.php?wfId=911160, and when I was at Seattle Opera's production of Wagner's "Lohengrin" last week I observed a lot of punk types in the audience. Some of them were doing the kilt/combat boot look, which perhaps is the punk version of black tie?

I was always more of a pop NW type, favoring the synth/dance elements, along with the power pop/jangle pop stuff, and never got more punk than the Clash or the Sex Pistols, but I've been a huge opera fan for years.

Anyone else? (I hope there is a good musical explanation, because I hate to think it's Wagner/skinhead political overlap.)

LOL, we gotta set up a double-header to CBGB's and the Met! "New Wave" (including Punk) and "Opera" sit alphabetically next to eachother on my iPod, just after "Modern Hard Alt" and before "Punkins". It's a great genre for blasting tracks on the car stere

I listen to some opera on occasion. Mario Lanza et al. I actually prefer going to the opera though. I get season tickets for the Austin Opera. We have a good season lined up this year!

I am also an opera fan, always have been.

Turandot, Madame Butterfly and The Pearl Fishers are among my favorites.

I have also found myself to be a fan of some of the modern minimalists works as well.
