Are these valid catagories firstly, and second what bands fall into them? I've heard the terms used frequently..

I bring it up because the term "Emo" is used all the time now, when it originated in the 80's to describe two bands that sound nothing like the bands of today the term is applied too

If darkwave is also known as EBM, it can be the equivalent to epci trance with gothy vocals. But thats just my opinion.

That's difficult... I always thought Dark Wave is something like "Deine Lakaien", that means dark synthesizer music.
VNV Nation and Apoptygma Berzerk are NOT Dark Wave, in my opinion.
Recently that kind of music is called "future pop", at least h

Clan of Xymox are awesome ! i would also add Dead Can Dance...they always shone when they'd combine their goth-influenced vibes with unusual instruments and other cultural influences. they'd use sitars and all sorts of other instrume
