What did you do for work then and now?

By trade I work in the video industry (currently making air dubs of TV commercials, and co-producing a cable tv show called Drinking With Ian (
www.drinkingwithian.com).
In 1982 I took my first video class and knew then and there that is what I wanted to do.
What about the rest of you? How does what you do now (professionally) compare with what you "wanted" to do?

Then - grocery store bagger, then clerk, then night manager (glamorous I know); life guard for one summer; warehouseman (again, very glamorous); quality control specialist for the same warehouse.
What I wanted to do was go to medical school.

I was unemployed then(whenever that was) and I'm equally unemployed now (how soon is that). Alternatively I was a student then (when was then) and I'm a student now (I hate change but that's another issue).

I always wanted to be a writer and I became one! (Among other things)

Then: Grade 7 to the end of highschool. I wanted to be a musician.
Now: Musician, poised on the brink of some wierd underground notoriety, lol.
Yeah, it all worked out juuust fine, lol.

Then: 1st job: grocery store bagger and also worked in a library.
BUT I WANTED to work in radio, such as DJ or production work. ( I wanted to do what Steve Rabow did ! )
College: worked in library, majored in English, thought I'd teach Kinde
