There isn't a 1979 year-end countdown for KROQ around anywhere is there? If not, it would be cool to hear everyones picks for a "psuedo" 1979 list. Here is my top 40. (Maybe I will do 106.7 of them later...) I tried to stick with mostly new wave for this, though there would have been many other genres in an actual countdown (as evidenced by the 1980 list).

1) B-52’s-Planet Claire
2) The Police-Message In A Bottle
3) Flash & The Pan-Ladykiller
4) Devo-Blockhead
5) 20/20-Yellow Pills
6) Joe Jackson-Is She Really Going Out
With Him?
7) The Tubes-Turn Me On
8) The Records-Starry Eyes
9) Elvis Costello-Goon Squad
10) Sniff ‘N’ The Tears-Drivers Seat
11) Devo-Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA
12) Blondie-Accidents Never Happen
13) Buzzcocks-Something’s Gone Wrong
14) Ian Dury-Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick
15) Herman Brood & His Wild Romance-Saturday Night
16) Tim Curry-I Do The Rock
17) Kinks-Attitude
18) Shoes-Tomorrow Night
19) The Cars-Dangerous Type
20) Ian Hunter-Just Another Night
21) Suburban Lawns-Gidget Goes To Hell
22) Bram Tchaikovsky-Girl Of My Dreams
23) Iggy Pop-Five Foot One
24) 999-Homicide
25) Lene Lovich-Lucky Number
26) Tubeway Army-Are ‘Friends’ Electric
27) The Sinceros-Take Me To Your Leader
28) Gang of Four-I Found That Essence Rare
29) The Knack-Your Number Or Your Name
30) Dickies-Tricia Toyota (Stuck In A Pagoda With)
31) The Normal-Warm Leatherette
32) Sports-Who Listens To The Radio?
33) The Damned-Smash It Up
34) Specials-Gangsters
35) Roxy Music-Angel Eyes
36) David Bowie-D.J.
37) Joe Jackson-Sunday Papers

Man, that list makes me nostalgic for when music was really good, lol.

Especially that CFNY list. God, does CFNY ever suck now. They should be ashamed of themselves. Well, it's actually Corus Entertainment's fault. DAMN YOU CORUS!!!!!!!

This hurt my brain. With assistance from Frisky's list, here's my proposed KROQ 1979, IN ORDER no less (subject to great debate of course). Also borrowed some hits from '78 in the tradition of other KROQ lists...

Does anybody then know what version of "Only a Lad" made the 1980 countdown?
The reason that I ask is the album "Only a Lad" was not released until 1981 but the 1980 EP had their early version of that song.

Have I been wrong all of these years?

Sorry about the formatting. I got this list in 1996 from an Unofficial KROQ site when I was doing some research for DJing my own retro night at the Melody in New Brunswick, NJ.

Here's the actual list from January, 1980:
