Fishbone or (Pre 90s) Red Hot Chili Peppers ?

Back in the 80's I recall both of these bands as having the label of being crazy but cool and being outside the realm of commercial pop or new wave.

We all know that the Peppers went on to be huge in the 90's and beyond, but who did you prefer back in the day when both bands were on the fringe of popularity/obscurity?

Back then I was a bigger Peppers fan than Fishbone-However, having said that-the album-the Reality of My Surroundings is nothing short of great!!!

I never cared for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and still don't, so Fishbone wins by default. But Fishbone did have the ska thing going for them, so that's a bonus.

I have to call it a tie. Red Hot Chili Peppers have some great songs and a lot of energy onstage, but so do Fishbone. I have to admit that Fishbone was a little better in concert, though, but I liked seeing Flea in "Suburbia" so I can't choose one over

The Peppers were too discordant and metallic for my taste...although they did have a very unique sound, plus energy to match, and i've always admired that.

Lloyd Dobler was into Fishbone...wore the t-shirt in the movie "Say Anything" which featured songs from both Fishbone and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
