Artist Comps V. Original Albums

ooh ooh my own poll question idea-Would you rather listen to a CD comp of your favorite artists (greatest hits-what not) or the original albums?

I'm thinking of this becaus I'm listenign to a CD re-ish of the 60s album (Turn on) The Music Machine and thinking how some great material from later singles and albums isn't on here -but some Hilarious period pieces-like a version of Neil Diamond's "Cherry, Cherry" are (which I understand the band was forced to do). And on the other hand-the other day I listened to the Rhino Comp of Tommy James and the Shondells and they really got a a good career retrospective on there (so it's not "new wave" music-so shoot me).

Is it six of one and a half-dozen of the other or do folks have definite preferences?

Some artist are so good that all or most of their albums are worth owning. Others were hit and miss so a greatest hits collection suffices. Some fall in between and did one or two great albums and a few other decent songs so the thing to own is a greate

I always like original albums better because comps are usually what the masses will listen to. Comps also tend to leave out some of the best tracks by artists. That always bugs me. This is pretty much true for bands that I like a lot. For bands that I

I agree with Scramjet, it depends on the band.

If I love the group, I want the original albums. If I only like a few songs, the greatest hits will usually do.

The worst situation is where what you'd really like is a good compilation for a band, but the greatest hit collection leaves out several key songs, presumably to entice you to buy the albums. INXS is the poster child for this situation. Was there ever a
