Seriously, a relative of one of the band members was named Johnny and apparently, he was not a fan of jazz, so that is how they came up with the name (I read it in an interview once a long, long time ago).

Thought of a few more. :) Bronski Beat wanted Johnny to remember them. La La (italo disco act) also loved Johnny. And didn't Men At Work asked Johnny to be good?

JOHNNY HATES JAZZ trivia:

JHJ vocalist Clark Datchler left the band after the first album. He was replaced by Phil Thornally, who later joined the Cure for a very brief time, and produced tons of new wave acts.
