It has come to my attention that I do not have "Mirror Man" by the Human League (horrors)! I didn't think it was a non-lp single, but I guess it was. So I figure, the best way to get it would be on a Human League CD compilation. But there are so many out there, I was wondering if you fine folks could recommend the best one to get; particularly if any had non-lp tracks or bonus remixes or some such stuff (I don't know my Human League non-lp tracks that well, but I'd rather not get a CD with a whole bunch of songs I already have). I'm curious to see what you all can recommend. Thanks!

It's not perfect but a great track selection nonetheless. Also has the (slightly) extended 'Mirror Man'.

Mirror Man is from the EP Fascination, which has never been released on CD in its original form.

It's been remastered and sounds great.

My advice is to forget everything after (including Dare) and stick with the more interesting stuff prior to that God awful release. Sorry if I rattled peoples cages but Dare and everything after that is just horrible.

Are you saying Dare was after Mirror Man? If so, not so.

Second vote for Original Mixes and Rarities. Otherwise, just get some really cheap one. I got this one for $5.99CAD http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006G89H4 but it's more expensive in the US.

Sorry if I wasn't clear...you are correct. What I'm saying is that everything (including Dare) and after Dare is over rated. I wouldn't even put those in new wave.....they're in a class of their own.

1979 - Reproduction (must have)
1980 - Travelogue (must have)
1981 - Dare (don't bother)
1984 - Hysteria (don't bother)
1986 - Crash (don't bother)
1990 - Romantic? (gave up at this point)
1995 - Octopus (ditto)
2001 - Secrets (ditto)

Ok, maybe I'm being too harsh. A friend of mine read what I had just posted and asked me when was the last time I listened to Dare....I replied 1981. So she made me promise to go back and listen to it tonight and then post my reaction tomorrow.

I hate her.......stay tuned to tomorrow. See if Max changes his mind...see if his friend is right.....see if Max is right.

I'm a long time fan & I believe that Secrets is their best album as a whole.
Give it a re-listen.

Ok, Dare was not as good as Reproduction & Travelogue but you have to give it a chance again !!!
I thought the same as you for a long time, but then after hearing "I love you too much" at a friends party I give it a try and have to say, that there are some great songs on it:

Sound Of The Crowd
Do Or Die
Seconds
and for sure: Don't You Want Me

Ok, it's their first very succesfull record and they sound a little polished but it is worth it to give it a try to like it !!!

Alrighty then......I gave Dare another listen and have come to the conclusion that I was partially wrong. The production was great and (Dare I say this) they were good at what they did. That's not to say that I have become a fan of Dare....let's just say that I now respect it a little bit more than yesterday.

Now, when I get home tonight, I think I had better listen to something to bring me back round again....how about some Snakefinger?

Everything after "Dare" is a waste of time, save your money. Dare is OK and does have some great album tracks such as "I am The Law" which is the way synths should be played, cold, bleak and impersonable. The best album is "Travelogue" with "The Black Hit of Space" being the stand-out track. I recommend the re-release as you get "Being Boiled" which was a top 10 hit here. Interestly enough, the version used for the hit was very cold and harsh compared to the warm poppy origninal.

"Cruel" & "I Don't Depend on you" (same track, the former is the instrumental version) contains some fantastic basswork on it and is worth checking out.

Last LP I bought was "Dare." Don't like anything after that.

You guys are missing out on two really great albums, The Human League are one of the few bands that can still record a good tune to this day.

Who say them on their last tour? How did they sound? Did they play any "new" material?
