Your first MTV video inspired purchase

What was the first video you saw from an artist that gave you the impetus to go out and purchase their album/cassette/cd? Mine would be "Poison Arrow"/"Look Of Love"(don't recall which came first) by ABC with a close second to "Stray Cat Strut" by the Stray Cats.

It's been so long ago, I don't remember if it was MTV specifically I saw it on or Night Flight, but after seeing "Whip It" I knew I had to have that LP.

Spandau Ballet - "Diamond"

I had clearly heard of Spandau Ballet by then but I really didn't go ga-ga over "Journeys to Glory," their first album. But I liked the video to "She Love Like Diamond" with its fade ins and outs so much, I went out and bought the album.

This is great thread! For me the first actual record purchase was "Love Plus One" from Haircut 100. But initially I wanted the 45 of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" from Tight Fit and COULD NOT find it ANYWHERE!!! And trust me, I searched and searched. Much into my adulthood I came across it on a UK hits comp. I also remember seeing for the first time 45s for songs that I only knew from MTV in record shops. It totally blew my mind! This was the day where new records were brought to us through radio and seeing the availability of songs from the TV was completely foreign to me. I was just as rocked when I first heard a song from MTV on the radio--"Down Under" from Men At Work. It was like hearing an episode of Good Times on the radio! Making the connection between music, radio, and television was so odd for me. Of course, these days the television has taken over both "music" and radio. Lucky for us we witnessed the heyday of MTV, before shrewdness, greed, gross indecency, (omigod, I am approaching 40!), and quasi-talent became so abundant.

I am pretty certain it was "The Masquerade" by Berlin. I went out and bought the [i]Pleasure Victim[/i] EP the following week. Didn't matter anyway, as soon as my mother heard "Sex (I'm A . . . )" she promptly confiscated it from me. I had to sneak out later and repurchase it.
