here's some rock artists who jumped on the new wave band wagon. if you know more please add them to the list....
1. LINDA RONSTADT "MAD LOVE" 1980 (songs with & by the cretones)
2.NEIL YOUNG "EVERYBODY'S ROCKIN" 1983
3.PETER FRAMPTON "BREAKING ALL THE RULES" 1981 (includes the cretones too)
4.SHAUN CASSIDY "WASP" 1980 (produced by todd rundgren & included songs by... bowie,ian hunter,pete townshend & cassidy and utopia)
5.TODD RUNDGREN "EVER POPULAR TORTURED ARTIST EFFECT" 1982

maybe we can add the following to the list....
1. kiss "dynasty" 1979
2. kiss "unmasked" 1980
3. rod stewart "tonight i'm yours" 1981 (the album singles got alot of airplay on new wave stations & clubs)
4. hall & oates "xstatic" 1979 (this album really had alot of new wave disco elements to it)
5. hall & oates "private eyes" 1981 (this was their only album besides xstatic that had a new wave/power pop theme running through out the album)
6. billy squire "tale of the tape" 1980 ( this album did have a new wave feel on alot of cuts & did get press in several new wave publications)

Pete Townsend-Looking Glass(some punky feel inside it,and some terrific airy keyboards)
Billy Joel-Glass houses
Utopia-Adventures in Utopia(and nearly every later album,moved between arty pop,new wave and power rock).

Both "Empty Glass" and "All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes" by Pete Townshend are New Wave. Plus, there's his brother Simon's album.

I've been hosting a Billy Joel radio show for the past few months, and often comment on just how New Wave "Glass Houses" was.

2. new england "new england" 1979
3. the rollers "elevator" 1979 (aka bay city rollers before name change)
4. the rollers "voxx" 1980 (aka bay city rollers before name change)
5. sherbs "the skill" 1980
6. donna summer "the wanderer" 1980
7. kc "space cadet" 1980 (from kc and the sunshine band)
8. kc and the sunshine band released the single only "lets go rock n roll" in 1980, to catch in on the new wave band wagon

Maybe not entirely new wave, but I think the classic rock bands that survived the end of the 70's in the best fashion all took a bit of a new wave influence to adapt their sound. For example:

Rush - (changed their guitar sound to use some of the effects that Andy Summers of the Police made famous) - Moving Pictures, Signals, Grace Under Pressure.

Yes - 90125

Foreigner - Agent Provacatuer (sp?)

Robert Plant - First Three Solo Albums

If nothing else, they blurred the lines a bit to escape the bogged down dinasour sounds of the late 70's!

Alice Cooper's "Flush The Fashion" was the first thing I thought of.
I love that AMG gave this one a measly one star, but I think it's a bit better than that.

Paul McCartney's "McCartney II" was stinking with the smell of electronic/new wave influences.

I dont know if they're rock but all 3 albums of Coldplay sounds New Wave to me. Especially Yellow.

Yes, I have been saying that for a long time. You should hear Coldplay's covers of a-ha's "Hunting High and Low" and Echo & the Bunnymen's "Lips Like Sugar." Coldplay are fans of the Wild Swans and the Lotus Eaters, too. Their influences are fairly blatant.
