Happy New Year! [:D]

After taking a year-long sabbatical from creating these <B>Name That Tune games to pursue other musical interests, I'm finally back! Numerous folks have told me how much they enjoyed the games and encouraged me to bring them back. Kudos go out to Blir for keeping the games alive in my absence.

Today's game is a standard game without any special theme (theme games while interesting, tend to be brutally difficult). In this game, there's a mix of well known hits, lesser known cuts, and a few real obscurities ranging the wide variety of styles that is <B>New Wave.

For newcomers to the game, there are a total of 25 songs clips. All of the tracks are the standard single or album versions, except for the very last song (#25), which is an Extended Mix. The game is on a 100 points basis (2 point for artist, 2 point for title). Partial credit will be given for responses that are "close" to correct. There are 2 seconds of silence between song clips. Download your response form below and email it to me for tabulation when you're finished (my email address is on the form). Make sure to put your forum screen names on your answers, so I know who you are. I will send the Answer Sheet to everyone who sends me their responses (if you don't hear from me within 24 hours, I probably didn't get your email). <B>Don't post your responses here!

Here's the link for the response form (my email address is on it):

The game will end on <font color="red"><B>Friday January 12 at 4PM EST</font>.

Good Luck! [:)]

Ohh Goody!,
What better way to kick off the new year!
Thanks fritz![8D]

:: Edit ::
After a seemingly pedestrian start, you've completely lost me after #10.
Um, what better way to kick my arse into 2007![B)][:I]

Thanks fritz, this is awesome. I also got stuck after #10, until the last 2. Ouch! I'm going to have to give it another try.

Thanks Fritz for reviving this quiz.

On a semi-related note, the NY Times Sunday Entertainment section had an article on a producer/researcher who investigates the neurobiology of how we remember music; he evidently upset a number of record company executives in 1992 when he recognized that 3rd generation back-up tapes were used for the Steely Dan cd releases!

The only thing I know for definite about songs 11 through 25 is that they ain't in my collection so it's unlikely I'll ever be able to remember them.

I haven't gotten too many responses yet. I guess most of you are hoping for some inspiration before sending them in. [;)]

<B>MIDGAME UPDATE

Well it appears that this game is shaping up as much more difficult than I had planned. [:I]

With only a handful of responses in so far, these few brave souls have an average score of 49 points. Most folks are getting tracks 1-9 and a scattered few others after that. Interestingly, the "few others" seem to be different for each player. Only 4 songs have yet to be identified by anyone (#19, #20, #21, #25). I'd be surprised if any of them remain stumpers to the end. None of them are really that obscure! [;)]

Missed this post at first--Dare I try it and continue to suck at it as usual?

<B>GAME UPDATE

Responses have trickled in over the past few days, though overall participation is still pretty low compared to previous games. I guess a lot of you are thinking your scores are too low to bother sending them in. Thanks to everyone who has braved the "shame and embarrassment" of sending in a mostly blank response sheet. [:I]

Currently, the average score stands at 51 points. No one has really kicked butt on this game so far, so those coveted top scorer's bragging rights are still very much up for grabs. As I predicted, the number of stumpers has dwindled to only one (#20); the artist has correctly been IDed, but not the song title.

There are only a couple days left to submit your responses, so don't wait too long! The game ends Friday!
