Hidden "Extras" on Albums

They pop up usually at the end of a side on some albums. You think the songs are over then something brief but unexpected chimes in before the needle lifts itself up. Sometimes its a brief song (like "Her Majesty" at the end of Abbey Road) or some goofy in-joke.

My favorite is at the end of The Boomtown Rats "Fine Art Of Surfacing" there's about 30 seconds of creepy laughter while Bob Geldof repeats over and over "That's not funny". It was good for some late night crank phone calls back in the day...

Well the best one is Train In Vain at the end of side 2 of London Calling, it seems it was hidden, but the tune was recorded too late to have CBS list the song on the album...

I remember at the end of the Nirvana CD, it faded out, and then you thought it was over, and wham, a killer loud song jam started! [:0]

There are some others I just can't think of at the moment...

My favorite is "Lenny" at the end of the Come On Feel The Lemonheads cd.

The end of the Ash 1977 cd has "Sick Party ", which is 5 minutes of pissing and vomiting noises.

There were one or two hidden tracks on the X-files Songs In The Key Of X
cd also, but I no longer have it and can noit remember what they were.

It's not a hidden track, but one of those things that you have to turn the headphones waaaay up to hear: At the very end of Follow Me from Blondie's Autoamerican album, you can hear someone say "Are you really going to put that on the album?"

I know it was on the original lp - don't know if it made it on to the reissues.

Theres a local band in my country wherein at the end of Side 1, you will hear the singer telling you to lip the cassette over to Side 2.

There's a bonus track on the second album by Better Than Ezra ([i]Friction, Baby[/i]), but instead of hiding it at the end of the album, it's hidden before it. The only way to access it is to start at track 1 on the CD, then scan backwards about 3 minutes. The song is sung in Spanish.

The Pet Shop Boys "Very" album has a "hidden" track called "Postscript".
There is quite a bit of time before it starts (after the last track on the listing). People have speculated that it is a love song/tibute to Chris Lowe's lover, who died of AIDS.

If we're talking about "added hidden mystery bonus tracks" on CD's, this topic could literally go on forever. It used to be clever but is now passe & annoying. Especially when you're burning discs to iTunes and your hard disc space is wasted by several minutes of silence between the "last" song and the bonus track ...

My favorite album addition was on the end of Wham!'s LP Fantastic. After the final notes of Young Guns (Go For It!), someone starts playing a piano at light speed in sort of a Vaudeville style. Then comes the sound effect of the guy getting hit (sounds like a gut shot) and he stops and groans a few times - when he starts playing again he's playing much slower & still groaning. Good stuff!

Yes, it's still there (I originally owned a tape and years later, bought the CD in the late 90's).
