I know you will not think of Todd Rundgren as a new wave guy, after all, he got his start way back in a band called Nazz. However, his band Utopia put out a few new wave sounding albums in the early 80s. Just curious to know if there are any other fans out there?

I always considered "Adventures In Utopia" a great album.

While not new wave sounding, but very Beatlesque, I always really like Deface The Music. Agree they did have some more new wave sounding material later.

By the way, Todd's solo Something Anything is a major must have

I don't think Rundgren as a whole is new wave but your right , some of his stuff was pretty right on. Geez look at his "Todd" album cover, multi colored hair in kind of a long shag looked pretty new wave to me. Hermit of mink hollow had onomotopoeia prett

I've got the self-titled CD, the one with "Feet Don't Fail Me Now" and "Princess Of The Universe", et. al., and the other CD I have is "Deface the Music" (Beatles tribute or parody, depending on how you look at it, but I can't imagine Todd not being a hug

I don't know much of his stuff but he is good. I remember a song called utopia or the road to utopia. Very cool!

"Crybaby" by Utopia is a great song to blast and drive really fast to. I especially like the multitracked echo scream of "C'MON!" about three minutes in. His newest CD Liars was kinda disappointing. My favorite Todd CD is probably Nearly Human....does

Todd is Godd!!

Well, maybe not, but he was a visionary and a pretty swell musician and songwriter (handled everything on his Something/Anything lp).

I think many of his songs would be favorable to new wave fans.

"Crybaby" is one of my favorites,

I love the song One World. I went out and bought the 45 of it after hearing it on CHUM fm back in the 80's when they played new wave stuff even before CFNY played some songs.
