Hi. I am also very sad about WLIR not being around anymore. I am 43 years old and was raised on Long Island. I now live in Dutchess County, upstate. I have tons of tapes I made while listening to WLIR and WDRE during the 80's. They are the only things I listen too still.
There very first time I tuned in to WLIR was just out of High School around '79? There was this song that was on at this job I was working at then. It was "Peppermint Lump", a duet by Pete Townshend anad this little 8 year old girl. I have been tuned in to 92.7 ever since then until I moved. There are NO other radio stations anywhere else to compare. Thank God for the tapes I recorded.
I worked for an uncle at "Blossom Heath Florist" on Long Beach Rd. in
Ocanside, Long Island. There is a big, round, black and white WLIR clock still hanging on the wall from the 70's. It is really worth taking a ride there and checking it out.
I would also like to mention that I was at the Malibu Beach Club back in 1982 at a Halloween costume contest with my twin sister Jett and cousins. Jett, won 1st place with her hand made E.T. costume. If anyone here at this message board was there I am sure they remember it. It was so good!
Thank you 92.7 WLIR and WDRE for giving us all the best DJ's and decades of music.
Bless you

:-)
Jane
