Did you guys hate Heavy Metal in the 80's and think it's kind of cool now? There were three kinds of people in my high school. The New Wavers, The Heavy Metalers, and then the everyone else. The New Wavers couldn't stand the Heavy Metalers and the Heavy Metalers couldn't stand the New Wavers. I was a New Waver and you couldn't catch me listening to Def Leppard, Scorpions, and the likes if my life depended on it. Well it's kind weird now but I actually like a lot of their songs. Maybe it's due to all the crap that's out now but I am actually thinking of buying some Heavy Metal compilations.

I was into it all. I was a MTV junkie. I also had and still have a love of old school punk. The only type of music I could not relate to was country.

I did not mind the Heavy Metal of the 80s. In fact some of it is really good. I got along with both the heavy metal crowd and the new wavers. But I never fit into either category back then, I was just too eclectic for most.

Things were both different and the same at my high school, I think.

We Wavers had a lot of disdain for the heavy metal fans (we called them Rockers), and we made fun of them a la "Bitchin' Camaro." Also, we Wavers tended to be a little more academic

I hung out with the "Skaters" (Skateboarders). We were a mix of punks, rockers and wavers. We all got along and listened to each others music. I particularly liked AC/DC, Rush, Van Halen and Iron Maiden.

When I was in high school, the punkers & metalheads were a small section of the population. Most of the kids liked either Top 40 or the classic 60's & 70's rock bands.
Naturally, being a punk, I hated everyone else's taste in music.

Eww, rockers! Hex, I know exactly what you mean in your description. Our rockers wore the half-shirt coupled with the KISW or KZOK painter cap. This hat was the baseball cap version of a mullet, with cloth hanging down the back of the neck. Hated that

I always hated the hair-metal scene, the cocky attitude and spandex, all chicks want to #$^%$# me, blah blah blah - - but if I separate the records from the image, I actuallly end up liking quite a bit of the songs.
