The UK? American? Other? Who Ruled New Wave?

So which brand of New Wave do you like better? The UK version, like Duran Duran and Depeche Mode; the American, like The B-52's and The Cars; or do you think everyone else ruled New Wave, like Norway (a-ha), Austrailia (Real Life), Germany, and the rest of the world?

United Kingdom..hands down!! My favorite groups are rom the UK. And i think they have the most number of New Wave bands than any other countries out there.

Second would be Germany

then Ireland ( Cactus World News is very, and i mean very good! )

UK definitely! without UK NewWave, there wouldn't be US NewWave IMHO. At that time i even thought Cyndi Lauper & Madonna were from UK LOL. silly me

I think that works both ways though. The Stooges, Modern Romance, Pere Ubu, Ramones, Blondie and others all were around before the UK punk and post-punk explosion. Having said that, I still prefer the UK scene to this day. Having said that about that, it's huge stretch to think that any other country had the drop on the US scene.

This was posted by someone shortly after I joined awhile back.As I recall back then I voted for good old U.S new wave and I stand by it now.The U.K stuff(and I have alot of it)is to wimpy.

Personally I also prefer Aus/NZ over US New Wave also.. but I am a little biased I guess [;)]

Yeah, without a doubt, British New Wave trounces all in my mind.

I just haven't been able to become too infatuated with American New Wave.

Speaking of American New Wave, my professor played the video for "Video Killed The Radio Star" on Friday in its entirety for our New Technologies class. I thought that was pretty cool, as did everyone else. Of course, I'm the only New Wave fan I know, so I couldn't help but feel a little snide about it. He said the video for it seemed pretty low-key by today's standards, and I thought, "Ooh! Play OMD's 'Enola Gay' if you want low-key!"

Hate to say it though, US of A in the hizzy herrre.. Great Britain owns New wave (The Cure/DM/New Order Etc..).. BUt DM are making American Synth-rock music now, and 2/3's now resides in US.. they still are service of her Majesty [xx(]

but when I think of the term "New Wave"...more american bands immediately jump to mind ----- Devo, Blondie, B52s, The Cars, talking heads (et al)

I almost view the UK bands as more autonomous --- not as conected to each other....

I'm so partial to power-pop and the New York scene that it has to be the U.S. for me. I like a lot of the UK stuff, but I find it's usually just one or two songs from an act rather than entire albums or discographies from the American acts.

I truly love - Big Country, Siouxsie, the Clash, and Toyah, but then there's the Ramones, Blondie, Patti Smith, Plimsouls, Fools, Rachel Sweet, B52s, Cars, Cheap Trick, Marshall Crenshaw, Lene Lovich, etc The US just outnumbers to brits for me.
