to me,,,,one of the best new wave/funk bands of the 1980's was...
living in a box !!!!!!
the song,living in a box has got to be one of the most catchiest
dance/club songs ever.....
their debut album is filled with nothing but hooks !!!!
its just one of those debut albums that is always on somebody's best list somewhere.
living in a box's second album,,"gatecrashing",wasn't as strong i feel as their debut,but very good nonetheless,& worth having in your record collection.
vocalist/songwriter,richard darbyshire's solo album,"how many angels",was supposed to be the third outing for living in a box.
let's not forget that,living in a box's debut album was also produced
by legendary american producer,richard james burgess who was
responsible for some of new wave's biggest hits!!!!!!!!
also,richard darbyshire's band right before,living in a box,was called,,,,,,zuzu sharks,which also included new wave bassist,gary tibbs.........

Yes I remember when LIAB used to bring the house down at CBGBs. The Talking Heads, who were so intimidated by LIAB's "experimental and edgy music", refused to come on stage after they performed. And then there's the time a young Johnny Rotten got kicked out of the band for "being too corporate".

As we all know, LIAB's rebellious sound went on to influence new generations of post punk alternative rockers like Nirvana, Green Day and Foo Fighters.

There is talk of a long awaited LIAB reunion tour this Summer with opening band The Police.

Living in a Box had this late 80s sound, and that was horrible!

I have to give props to a band who can write a hit song after their name which is also the title of their album.

But let's get one thing straight. They WERE NOT new wave at all. I don't even think I ever recall hearing LIAB on any alternative station. But then again they weren't as horrible as some are painting them. They were basically just another late 80's euro-pop act. There were many similar sounding artists around the same time. LIAB is kind of catchy bouncy fun. And I really like their song gatecrashing. As Georgie pointed out long before LIAB the lead singer fronted the obscure band Zu Zu Sharks.
