Best Songwriters Of New Wave...

In my opinion Depeche Mode and New Order have some of the best written music of any genre. I consider them the best of the songwriters in New Wave.

But there's alot to be said about many others...so let my hear for you!

Noone mentioned the real BEST.

One who made/mades lyrics that not only have serious ans interesting contents but suit to the music so much that are music themselves. A guy who does not have his lyrics in most of the albums of his solo work but have published them as a cd-sized book. A guy who you will remember for his first lyrics with the band that made him quite famous (not that much and only in the USA) but improved a lot when maturing, the Dylan of the indie generation, although no one pays many attetntion to him, a guy with commitment...

Ladies and gentlemen... Mr. Ian McNabb, former frontman and composer with The Icicle Works!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, Steve Kilbey of The Church, being far from McNabb in terms of quality but much more dark, had his lyrics studied by a Doctor in Poetry in English Language from can't remember what university...

Don't discount the handiwork of Buzzcocks. Intelligent, catchy lyrics at 90 miles per hour.

I liked The Smiths. Their music was top notch. Their lyrics were intelligent but, let's face it...not exactly upbeat. You wouldn't choose their songs to be in the "on hold" loop at the Suicide Prevention Hotline (though, it probably isn't wise to put any callers on hold anyway). You get the point.

This is a post that was started some time ago. Did anyone notice that Georgie Rockwood had something to say on this topic? The random (and incorrect) use of capital letters brings back such fond memories. The mere mention of his name makes me want to see a response by eight6 immediately following the appearance of his name. Ah...I do so like nostalgia.



We didn't sell a lot of records, but somehow we left an impression.
