I can only assume most NWO regulars know about these invaluable guides, in fact I would bet many of you own at least 1, if not all 5 of these volumes. From the first through the last, you can see their growth (volume alone). They are also on-line now, although I am not sure just how comprehensive the on-line version is. The times I go there, it has been helpful.

While I definitely disagree with lots of the critic reviews of an artist or group, the information about the group and their discography is invaluable. It is a perfect adjunct to allmusicguide.com. Plus, the guides are really some cool 80s timepieces relating to what this site is all about. You can spend hours browsing these guides, and some are easily found still in the music section at used book stores. The older the volume (going back to volume 1) the more pricey they are. I think I paid about $40 for Volume 1 from a used shop in Chicago, but it was the only one I needed, and so I bought it. Hey, and they even say "guide to new wave" on them!!

I still use these guides to this day in figuring out what to buy. If I'm going to do some major CD shopping I'll even bring one along with me. How else are ya gonna know which Go-Betweens album to choose, which Robyn Hitchcock to avoid, etc etc etc. Th

Yeah, the books are indispensible. I have the 4th volume and have highlighted everything I currently have. That way it's easier to keep track of everything.

I picked up the first edition in NYC in 1984 on a road trip with my girlfriend. I picked it up, leafed through it for a long time, put it down, and walked out of the store. My girlfriend said, "You should go back and get it. You may not see it again."

Agree, certainly for Go-Betweens, everthing is essential, plus the Grant McLenna and Robert Forster solos, and even the great solo with the girls from the group!!
